It's a boy!

And he's beautiful. Just a few days old, and already grinning for the camera. Nestled on the blanket Grandma made for him, Connor slept through most of his first official photo session. Perfect! Then at the end, we were thrilled to capture him alert and checking out what all the fuss was about. I love the silky blond locks on this photogenic little newborn baby - my wedding clients have gorgeous babies! Congratulations, Jen and Matt!

Double the love

I just love it when I get a call from former wedding clients who need photos to capture their sweet newborn. Sweeter still is when the call comes and it's not one baby, but twins!

This special boy and girl knew how to make a grand entrance by choosing Leap Day as their birthday. How cool is that? They are so small at just five and a half pounds that they don't quite fit into their skin yet.

Oh my, photographing (and even just holding) these teeny tiny people was pure joy. Congratulations twice over, Amanda and Jayant!

Canadian winter shoot

Who says winter portrait sessions have to be inside and boring? When the temperatures dip below zero, head outside for a cold-weather photo experience!

Natalya wanted to play around a bit, so we tried some typical portraits and some not-so-typical photos. Here's some of the more interesting ones.

Thanks for bringing an adventurous spirit to the photo shoot, Natalya!

Sweet baby K

One of the best parts of my job is watching families grow and documenting their journey through life together. Two years ago I photographed a wedding and ended up with one of my all-time favourite wedding photos (see below).

Last week, I was honoured to photograph their sweet, sweet baby girl, only two weeks old. Isn't she angelic?

So happy together

Jocelyn and Scott wanted to do their engagement session at Scott's family farm because they have so many good memories there. Built by his great-grandfather, and still being farmed today, the land and outbuildings are rich with family history, so it obviously has a special place in their hearts.

Their beautiful little guy Caiden joined us for part of the shoot, and was ready to do some farming wearing his miniature cowboy boots. I love, love, love his blond curls, which are proof of his Irish heritage. Can't you just see him running through the hills of Ireland?

Match made in heaven

Besides almost falling in the water (see the series of four images below), Luke and Colleen nearly got stuck up in a tree during their recent engagement session. After the tree incident (not pictured), we then decided to stick with less risky photo ideas which would keep them in one piece for their upcoming wedding.

Their dusty workboots are proof of the hard work they've been doing lately, renovating a house so they can create a home together. With a firm foundation in their house as well as in their faith, Luke and Colleen are well on their way to a strong and happy marriage. Congratulations, you guys!

Wilderness Guru

Last week my husband and I took a wilderness survival course. Over the course of four days, our knowledgeable guide Howard and his faithful chihuahua Pepe led us through thick forests, across streams, and over beaver dams. We left the school with a new respect and awe for nature (and more than a few mosquito bites), as well as some pretty neat survival skills. Thanks for sharing your wilderness wealth with us, Howard!

Fun portraits

This past week I met up with Sarah and Matt to grab some fun photos before the summer ended. It's been so rainy lately, I wasn't sure we would be able to capture them on a sunny day, but luckily the rain stopped before we started shooting and we were able to get some fantastic images.

Sisters

Unlike my nieces, I never had a sister. They spent the long weekend at my parent's place and I managed to get a few shots of them where they weren't posing for the camera.

If they misbehave, I usually stick them up on the roof:

This one has had a smile on her face since the day she was born:

And this one is always up to something silly, usually involving her brother:
