Perth fall family session

If you've never been to Perth, do yorself a favour and visit one of Ontario's most charming small towns. The historical architecture and the parks make it one of my favourite places to do photo shoots. I recently met up with the Renwick family (well, most of them!) to capture their family fun in the autumn leaves - a perfect setting for an active two-year-old who loved to play amongst nature's photo props. I photographed mom and dad's wedding a few years back, and it was so nice to return to Perth to capture their growing family in pictures.

It's a boy!

And he's beautiful. Just a few days old, and already grinning for the camera. Nestled on the blanket Grandma made for him, Connor slept through most of his first official photo session. Perfect! Then at the end, we were thrilled to capture him alert and checking out what all the fuss was about. I love the silky blond locks on this photogenic little newborn baby - my wedding clients have gorgeous babies! Congratulations, Jen and Matt!

Double the love

I just love it when I get a call from former wedding clients who need photos to capture their sweet newborn. Sweeter still is when the call comes and it's not one baby, but twins!

This special boy and girl knew how to make a grand entrance by choosing Leap Day as their birthday. How cool is that? They are so small at just five and a half pounds that they don't quite fit into their skin yet.

Oh my, photographing (and even just holding) these teeny tiny people was pure joy. Congratulations twice over, Amanda and Jayant!

Sweet baby K

One of the best parts of my job is watching families grow and documenting their journey through life together. Two years ago I photographed a wedding and ended up with one of my all-time favourite wedding photos (see below).

Last week, I was honoured to photograph their sweet, sweet baby girl, only two weeks old. Isn't she angelic?

Baby is here!

Baby Max is here! He arrived a month ago, on August 3, and weighed a healthy 8lbs 8oz. This little guy is a smiler, especially when he hears his big sister's voice. Here he is, at just 10 days old. Thanks for all the good wishes!

It's a girl

All my clients this summer saw me shooting with a growing baby bump - I was due in the middle of November, and didn't know if I was carrying a boy or a girl.

Well, Marika Kate surprised us by arriving about a week early. Apparently she couldn't wait to meet us! She was born on Nov. 7 at 5:44 a.m., weighing a healthy 7lbs, 14 oz.

What a teensy, tiny little person - so squishable!

That was then ....

... this is now.

Four years ago I captured some of my favourite wedding pictures when photographing the easy-going Max and Rebecca. You may recognize them from some of my website photos.

Recently, I caught up to them again and boy, have things changed in their home. They are now proud parents to the cutest little girls who were such a joy to photograph. Lots of giggles and smiling faces, bubbles and flowers, and here are some of my favourites of that photo shoot.

Fun portraits

This past week I met up with Sarah and Matt to grab some fun photos before the summer ended. It's been so rainy lately, I wasn't sure we would be able to capture them on a sunny day, but luckily the rain stopped before we started shooting and we were able to get some fantastic images.

Strange... yet beautiful?

One of my favourite things in the whole wide world is quirky images.

I love seeing everyday, slice of life photos that really catch one’s eye in a new way (Photographer Diane Arbus, anyone?). Weird and beautiful, such photos intrigue and inspire me and sometimes make me laugh. Better still is taking photos like that myself.

Also dear to my heart are my nieces and nephew.

Combining two of my favourite things, I got this image, taken over the weekend. Beautiful? Silly? Strange? Eerie?

Definitely unique.

Sisters

Unlike my nieces, I never had a sister. They spent the long weekend at my parent's place and I managed to get a few shots of them where they weren't posing for the camera.

If they misbehave, I usually stick them up on the roof:

This one has had a smile on her face since the day she was born:

And this one is always up to something silly, usually involving her brother:

Autumn

Have you noticed the spectacular fall colours this year? It's as if the trees have been painted with iridescent shades of yellows and oranges and reds. Absolutely stunning.

Recently, I took advantage of the beautiful colours to get a great backdrop for some family photos. The kids had SO much fun playing in the leaves covering the ground. Don't these photos make you want to be a kid again?

Sibling fun

One of my favourite subjects to photograph is kids. They are able to let loose and have fun in a way few adults can. I take a lot of photos of my brother's kids, partly because I always have my camera handy and also because, well, they are just so darn photogenic!

Snapshot: Higher, Daddy!

I grabbed this snapshot of my brother and his daughter in a friend's pool over the weekend.
