Brides: The wedding photos you want

The best wedding photos are not necessarily the ones taken in front of beautiful flowers. Sometimes I find that a bunch of colours in the background distract from what the viewer should be looking at - the people.

To produce beautiful portraits, I always look for locations which have a good mix of interesting architecture and scenery. Waterways, trees and a variety of green plants are perfect.

Over the weekend, we went cycling in Merrickville, a picturesque little town on the Ottawa River. I'll be shooting a wedding there in a couple of months and brought my little camera to take some snapshots while I checked out possible portraits locations. We were nosing around the town's nooks and crannies when we came around the corner to this:

I had an "Oh my!" moment when I saw the stone ruins, the grass and the trees. And the water is just a hop, skip and a jump away. A wedding photographer's dream.

Can't wait!
